Myopia Management in Mississauga
We help children and teens manage myopia (nearsightedness) with safe, non-invasive treatments, designed to slow progression and support long-term vision health.
What Is Myopia & Why Does It Matter?
At Complete Eyecare, our eye doctors take a proactive approach to myopia. By managing it early, we can help reduce your child’s risk of serious eye diseases later in life, including glaucoma, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration. If your child’s prescription is changing quickly, or if you’re concerned about screen time and eye strain, we’re here to help.
Personalized, Proven Options for Slowing Myopia
Our optometrist offers several clinically proven myopia control treatments, tailored to your child’s age, prescription, and lifestyle:
MiSight® daily lenses: Soft contact lenses approved for myopia control in children. Worn during the day and replaced each morning, MiSight lenses are comfortable, easy to use, and shown to slow myopia progression.
MiyoSmart® lenses: These look and feel like regular glasses, but use smart optical zones to gently manage the way light enters the eye. Ideal for kids who prefer glasses or aren’t yet ready for contact lenses.
Ortho-k (orthokeratology): Custom contact lenses worn overnight that gently reshape the cornea during sleep. In the morning, your child enjoys clear vision throughout the day, requiring no glasses or lenses. An excellent option for active kids or teens in sports.
Ongoing Monitoring & Support for Growing Eyes
Our eye doctor partners with families for the long run. Our myopia management plans include regular follow-ups, prescription monitoring, and adjustments as your child grows. We’re here to answer questions, explain changes, and support your child’s comfort and confidence in their vision.
Why Parents Trust Us with Their Child’s Vision
Dr. Preeti Jani has years of experience helping families manage progressive myopia in children. With expertise in both pediatric eye care and specialty lens fitting, she works closely with each family to find an option that’s safe, effective, and age-appropriate.
Our clinic also uses advanced tools to monitor prescription changes, track progress, and ensure your child’s treatment is working as intended, so you can move forward with clarity and peace of mind.
Why Choose Complete Eyecare for Myopia Control?
At Complete Eyecare, we treat pediatric nearsightedness as a progressive medical condition, not just an optical inconvenience. Standard glasses simply act as a crutch—they help your child see today, but they don't stop their eyes from getting worse tomorrow.
Using advanced diagnostic tools, including baseline OCT scans, we monitor the structural growth of your child’s optic nerve to prevent long-term risks like retinal detachment and glaucoma. Our custom Myopia Management programs are designed to actively slow down the elongation of the eye, protecting both their vision health and their childhood confidence.

FAQs About Myopia
Long hours on screens do not act alone, but prolonged close-up work, shorter viewing distances, and less time outdoors are linked with a higher risk of myopia developing or progressing in children. Myopia also has genetic risk factors, so a child with one or both nearsighted parents may be more likely to develop it. At Complete Eyecare, we encourage healthy screen habits along with regular eye exams. Simple steps like holding screens farther away, taking visual breaks, following the 20-20-20 rule, and increasing outdoor time can support healthy visual development. If your child is squinting, sitting close to screens, complaining of blurry distance vision, or needing frequent prescription changes, a myopia assessment can help determine whether myopia control is appropriate.
Myopia control is most effective when it starts early, especially when a child is first diagnosed or shows signs that their prescription is changing quickly. Children often progress most rapidly during school-age years, and earlier onset can increase the chance of stronger prescriptions later in life.A myopia control plan may include options such as Ortho-K, MiSight contact lenses, MiyoSmart
lenses, atropine drops, or a combination of treatment and lifestyle guidance. At Complete Eyecare in Mississauga, we personalize recommendations based on your child’s age, prescription, eye health, family history, visual needs, and how quickly their eyes are changing.
Low-dose atropine drops have the strongest evidence for slowing myopia progression in children and younger teens. Evidence for using atropine specifically to slow myopia progression in older teens and adults is limited, even though some young adults do continue to experience myopia changes. For adults with progressing myopia, the first step is a comprehensive eye exam to confirm whether the prescription is truly changing and to rule out other causes, such as focusing strain, dry eye, corneal changes, cataracts, or health-related eye conditions. If treatment is appropriate, your optometrist can discuss the benefits, limitations, and possible side effects of atropine, including light sensitivity or near-vision blur, as well as other options such as specialty contact lenses or Ortho-K.
